Research at the Outpatient Center for Psychological Treatment

Our research focuses on the question of why and how mental disorders develop after traumatic experiences and how they can be treated.

Research projects and goals

The research projects at the University Outpatient Center are carried out by scientists from the Chair of Clinical Psychology and Psychological Treatment. Among other things, they deal with the development of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the effectiveness of certain therapeutic methods, and the influence of therapeutic interventions on memories of traumatic experiences. More detailed information on the individual research groups can be found here.

As part of our therapeutic treatments, we generally carry out diagnostic procedures for research purposes. In addition, our clinic conducts time-limited therapeutic trials focusing on specific research questions. The possibility of taking part in such a trial is discussed in detail with patients in advance.

Current Studies

Posidonia

In collaboration with the Deutsches Zentrum für Psychische Gesundheit, we are conducting a clinical trial regarding depression that has not yet responded to medical treatment. The study focuses on comparing a newly developed, personalised form of psychotherapy with ‘behavioural activation’, the effectiveness of which in treating depression is well proven.

We are currently (autumn 2026) recruiting patients aged 18 and over with depression for the study.
The condition must either have persisted for at least 2 years or must not have responded to medication to date (following several attempts at treatment).

What are the benefits of taking part?

  • quick access to outpatient psychotherapy
  • intensive short-term therapy in one-to-one sessions over a period of 6 weeks, with two sessions per week (12 sessions in total)
